VIRUS ND BACTERIA

BACTERIA VS VIRUS:DIFFERENCE AND EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Both bacteria and viruses are micro-organisms that are invisible to the naked eye. Hence these micro organisms can be seen only through instruments called microscope. The size of the bacteria is usually 10-3millimeters.The size of the virus ranges from 10-4 to 10-5 millimetre.

WHAT ARE BACTERIA?

Bacteria are micro sized and simple prokaryotes with free-floating genetic material. These single-celled bacteria can be rod shaped, spiral or spherical in shape.

WHAT IS VIRUS?

Virus is also micro sized organisms with size ranging from 10-4 to 10-5 millimetre. These virus can be spiral shaped, cylinder and ball shaped.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BACTERIA AND VIRUS

The following table lists the diffference between bacteria and virus

VIRUSBACTERIA
They are non living organisms and cannot survive on their ownThey are living organisms and can survive on their own
Viruses are submicroscopic organismsBacteria are larger in size when compared to virus
They do not have nucleic acids, proteins and lipds and hence they require other organisms to surviveBacteria do not need host to survive and hence hey survive of their own
Virus infect a host cell and they multiply rapidly thereby infecting other cells of the bodybacteria causes localized infections on a particular part of a body
DISEASE: Influenza,Polio,AIDS and Covid-19DISEASE:Pneumonia,tuberculosis,food poisoning

the main difference between the bacteria and virus is that the virus do not possess nucleic acid or lipids.hence they require a living organism to survive.Whereas the bacteria on the other hand possess these nucleic acid and lipids and hence they do not require any other living organism to survive.

bacteria can be cultured in a medium in a scientific and research laboratory. this method is called culture test.but virus cannot be cultured without any living organisms.

typhoid cholera and Diptheria are some of the the diseases caused by bacteria.

bacteria present in water and food gets transmitted and causes harmful diseases to to human and animals.bacteria can be grown in non living organisms and gets transmitted to living organisms but virus gets transmitted from one living organism to the another living organism.

AIDS,rabbies are some of the examples of the diseases caused by virus. bacteria possess DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) whereas virus possess either DNA or RNA(ribonucleic acid)
